High tribute to the Itzehoe fire chief
The chief of the Prinovis Itzehoe works fire brigade was honoured in a very special way at the delegates meeting of the Steinburg district fire brigade association on 14 March. In appreciation of outstanding performance in the fire fighting field, Jochen Schmidt received the highest award presented by the Deutsche Feuerwehrverband (German Fire Brigade Federation): the »Deutsche Feuerwehr- Ehrenkreuz in Gold« (German Fire Brigade Cross of Honour in Gold). In his laudation, District Fire Chief Frank Raether focussed on the many years of successful commitment of Jochen Schmidt – a commitment that includes not only the position of chief of the works fire brigade and responsible person for operational safety, but also many honorary activities. Jochen Schmidt is, for instance, also making a significant contribution to the development of a hazardous materials concept for the district fire brigades. In addition, Schmidt also participated in setting up and organising the hazardous materials training sector, where he leads the first training course. The Itzehoe fire chief is also trainer/lecturer in the field of preventative fire protection and fire fighting and participates in various fire brigade committees and working circles as well as the board of the works fire brigade federation north.
