Girls’ Day in Ahrensburg - Back to the future
By participating in »Girls’ Day – Girls’ Future Day« more and more young women are gaining entry to a technical study course or an apprenticeship.
The 24th April 2008 was Girls’ Day – Girls’ Future Day. Many companies, research centres and institutions participated. Scholars from Class 5 upward had a chance to sniff around in professions currently carried out by very few women. Because girls are specifically addressed, Girls’ Day affords the opportunity of trying your hand at technology-related occupations in the context of exciting participatory activities – without gender-related clichés. The campaign day also provides companies and organisations with the opportunity of discovering more about the potential of girls and women in these fields and to further develop their future policies and gain new talents.
The Head of Training in Ahrensburg, Jürgen Bestmann, supported by Karsten Schmidt and Ernst Grantz and also by six trainees (two media designers, two printers and two office clerks), had created a tight programme. After an introduction into the world of Prinovis by Jürgen Bestmann, the three trainee teams reported on their respective occupational training and the special challenges in their Prinovis every day. This was followed by a tour through the printing works, who explained the ins and outs of a Prinovissized print shop to the guests. After about three hours, the learners then had the opportunity to sniff around in what goes on at the workplaces of their fathers (or mothers).
Incidentally: it was not totally a girls-only day. A few boys also made use of the day to inform themselves about Prinovis and training in a print shop.
